Kashmir, Brooklyn:
T5S vs
Maya Hayuk!

llustrator/photographer Maya Hayuk is the latest artist resident to join Triple Five Soul’s artist-collaborative VS. PROJECT. Set to run from October 2005 – March 2006, Hayuk’s show features black-light activated murals throughout T5S’ Brooklyn and Soho stores. Hayuk’s VS installation also signifies the launch of the limited edition VS FOOTWEAR series. Hayuk’s Premier edition, The Five Feather shoe (graphically-inspired by Led Zepplin’s famed song “Kashmir” (Physical Graffiti, 1975), also focuses greatly on abstractions of classic black-light art, and will be limited to 555 pairs, worldwide. Maya Hayuk’s overall body of work ranges from tender mockeries of idealized social rituals (ie. hot tubbing and its associated nudity), to transcendent portrayals of geometries that give way to abstract depictions of nature.

Having already collaborated with a full-spectrum of respected artists (including Banksy, The Barnstormers, Frank Kozik, and Paris’ Concept 9), Hayuk is also the recipient of the San Francisco Arts Commission Market Street Kiosk Project grant. Maya has shown her paintings in many major US cities, as well as in Tokyo, London and Paris, and her work has appeared in Vice, Anthem, Details, Wax Poetics and Graphic Magazine, and has graced album art for luminary record labels Warp, Definitive Jux and Ninja Tune (amongst others). When not on the road painting, Hayuk splits her time between San Francisco and Brooklyn.
