Vandalism and gallery installations alike will never be the same after guest artist Bob Partington unleashed a dead-effective arsenal of home-made graffiti machines on both Triple Five Soul retail spaces for the latest VS PROJECT. BOB VS. T5S features works produced with innovative, hand-engineered spray machinery (including a giant, spinning spraycan gun, a stealth briefcase and launchable spray darts), as well as pieces of the artists tools and video documentation of Partington’s unique process of implementation. Bob Partington abandoned his mechanical engineering studies in 1995 to pursue studies in fine arts at Queen’s University, Canada. He completed his MFA at New York University, and immediately started showing his work in group exhibitions, curated by the likes of Kenny Schachter, Alfredo Martinez, and Surface to Air.
While making his mechanical sculptures, Bob also worked with MTV’s “Celebrity Deathmatch”, as Special Effects Supervisor. At MTV, Bob honed his skills in high-end puppet manufacture, and still remains a sought-after expert in the field, working with clientele including MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Disney, Scholastic, and Mattel. Bob currently works in his Williamsburg studio with Tunde Adebimpe (TVOTR), Christy Karacas (Cheeseburger), and Morgan Phalen (Diamond Nights), churning out mountains of artwork and animation, as well as the occasional music video. Bob’s recent artwork has been favorably reviewed by both Core 77 industrial design magazine, and Roberta Smith for The New York Times.
